ABOUT MASMED
The Malaysian Academy of SME and Entrepreneurship Development (MASMED) was formed by consolidating three key centres at Universiti Teknologi MARA: MEDEC, Tunas Mekar Project, and the Entrepreneurship Research & Support Centre (ERSC). MEDEC, established in 1975, was the first of its kind in Malaysia and played a pioneering role in entrepreneurship education. It introduced curriculum, training, and research to inspire entrepreneurial culture among students and the community, while also offering advisory and consultancy services to aspiring entrepreneurs.
The Tunas Mekar Project, launched in 2005 under Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, linked graduates with SME entrepreneurs through apprenticeships, providing real business exposure and skills. In 2009, ESRC expanded UiTM’s role in entrepreneurship through research, seminars, and policy advocacy. Collectively, these initiatives grew into MASMED, a comprehensive hub driving innovation, entrepreneurial awareness, and business success. Today, MASMED stands as a centre of excellence, continuing UiTM’s vision to cultivate enterprise among students and the wider community.
